JUDITH RENKEMA
session/touring bassplayer

About Judith

Judith is a professional bass player from the Netherlands, based in the city of Tilburg. She graduated from the Rock Academy in 2011 studying electric bass, and after a few years in the field she decided to go a bit deeper and learn to play the upright bass at the conservatory in Tilburg. In 2016 she received her Masters Degree.

Judith is a diverse and in demand session player. She has had the privilege and pleasure of performing/recording with some great artists, not just from the Netherlands, but also from the United States and Australia. A few USA/AU artists she’s worked and toured with in the past are are Gregory Page, Jaimi Faulkner, Dan Tuffy, Nathan James, Michael Katon, Stephen Simmons and Malford Milligan. As for Dutch/European artists: JW Roy, Judy Blank, Marlijn Weerdenburg, Erwin Nijhoff, Mattanja Joy Bradley and Komodo. She’s also been the bass sub for Alvaro Soler, Ralph de Jongh, Simon Keats, Tangerine and Van Dik Hout. It's also worth noting that she had her first USA tour with JW Roy in September 2018, playing places such as the Saxon Pub in Austin, TX and Sam's Burger Joint in San Antonio.

2019/2020
Currently she’s working with gifted Americana songwriter Judy Blank. In 2019 they played a bunch of clubs and festivals in the Netherlands. But they are also starting to get some international attention as they have played some serious showcase festivals in the USA as well, starting with SXSW in March and Americanafest in September 2019. They will be releasing Judy’s EP in November and doing club shows and festivals in the spring/summer of 2020.

Early 2019 Judith made a record with talented actress/singer Marlijn Weerdenburg, which will be released in March 2020. They’ve made a few television appearances on Dutch national television and have finished their first NL theatre tour. 2020 will bring the release of the album and another theatre tour in the fall.

In 2019 Judith was the bass sub for the popular European artist Alvaro Soler, and she will doing some more shows in the summer of 2020.

Alongside her session work, Judith also has a rock trio with guitarist/songwriter Jeroen Kant and drummer Jan Pohl. Their first record ‘Alles in Kleur’ released in 2017 received some great reviews, and they’ve just released their new EP ‘Diesel’.

When Judith’s not touring, she enjoys recording/studio work. She is a big fan of the old school, woody bass tone. She plays mostly vintage basses, but will not shy away from fuzz/overdrive effect pedals for the heavier duties. Her main axes are two '63/’66 Fender Precisions, a '67 Guild Starfire bass and a '68 Fender Mustang. Her main rigs are a '66 Fender Bassman and a ’73 BV4 Ampeg.
